My Curly Horses
What is a Curly Horse?
Observations and Thoughts
My Curly Horses

I first became aware of this horse breed in the early 1980's due to an article in Mother Earth News magazine.  After reading a description of the gentle, intelligent and curious nature of these horses, I knew that someday I wanted a horse like this.

That someday arrived in the fall of 2004, when I purchased Shiloh (*Magic Trix) from Shelly White in Canada www.curlystandardplace.com.   Only 7 months old, Shiloh was transported by horse trailer from British Columbia to my home in northeast Kansas.  She made the long journey with ease, stepping off the trailer fresh and eager to explore her new home.

Later that year in December,  Blue (*Mountain Blues) joined me from Montana, followed by Poca (*Lady's Polkadot) at the beginning of 2007, and finally Glory (*Shines Like Grace) in the spring of 2007.  Glory is a full sister to Shiloh.

I have to say, Curlies may not cause allergies, but they certainly ARE contagious!  Some people say it is like eating potato chips, you can't have just one.  To see more pictures, click on the horse's name or photo below -

*Magic Trix - "Shiloh"

Shiloh joined me from British Columbia in November 2004 at the age of 7 months.  Intelligent, mischievous and beautiful, she graces my life daily with her presence.    Shiloh began her riding training in the summer of 2008 at four years of age.  She has lots of endurance and will make a great trail and endurance horse someday.  Her color is golden bay (see http://www.equinecolor.com/bay.html..

*Mountain Blues

"Blue" was originally born wild in Wyoming.  After partnering up with humankind, he worked on ranches in Wyoming and Montana before finally joining me in 2004.    I have a deep connection to this big mountain boy.  Powerful and charming, he is teaching me The Way of the Horse.   His color is blue roan (see http://www.equinecolor.com/roan.html ), but he appears more dark chocolate than black.

*Lady's Polkadot - "Poca"

Poca is a purebred Curly with Missouri Foxtrotter bloodlines.  Her grandsire is "Sir Patrick MJT" a double-registered Curly Foxtrotter.  Poca is gaited and does a nice foxtrot. Gentle, intelligent and wanting to please, Poca has a very typical Curly disposition.  She began her riding training in late winter 2008, and is doing wonderfully.   I believe Poca's color to be wild bay sabino, altho' her extensive sabino roaning has faded her base coat to such an extent that it sometimes appears to be buckskin.  Since her sire was bay, I believe her base color is more likely to be wild bay than buckskin.   ( See http://www.equinecolor.com/sabino.html  for a description of the various forms of sabino coloring.)

*Shines Like Grace - "Glory"

*Shines Like Grace, aka "Glory" is a full sister to Shiloh, and was born in July 2006.  She arrived here from Canada in May, 2007.  She is gentle and playful.  Her coloring is called zebra dun, considered a primitive horse color.   She has zebra striping on her legs, and a black stripe down her back from mane to tail.
(See http://www.equinecolor.com/dun.html for a description of the dun coloring characteristics.)
